I’ve traveled to eight different countries through out my lifetime. I developed a strong curiosity for different cultures at an early age. Every place my parents and I went, I learned the area and acted like I lived there. Which explains why my parents have a favorite story about the accent I adopted in London when I was 12. I loved that time with my parents, but as I got older I started to wish that I had someone my own age that I could share it with.
Nic and I had to work to make his first Rio trip a reality. For one, he didn’t have a passport or visa. Two, my parents had to agree (mom loved the idea, dad didn’t have an opinion). And the last and most obvious roadblock; that shit (world traveling) is expensive. But with enough time, planning and saving, we made it happen.
I don’t think Nic believed we would actually end up in Rio until we landed. One of my favorite things about Nic is how open minded he is. While the coastline scenery is breathtaking, Rio is a city filled with corruption. There are places that lack the type of beauty some tourists may be looking for. Nic let me take his hand and show him “my” little part of Rio. We went to places I had already been, but they were completely different experiences with him.
There is a seed of an idea planted in my mind that Nic and I will live abroad at some point. I don’t know when or where or why. I feel giddy at the thought of exploring new places with him. But, my passion for travel goes beyond my relationship. It is a part of who I am. He may not be able to join me for all of them, but that doesn’t mean I’m not going. Sorry babe. Now enjoy these pictures of us.
