I initially intended to visit Costa Rica on my own — and I envisioned a lot of reading, writing, reflecting and listening to birds. You know, nature stuff. But I’m always welcoming of a travel buddy, so when the opportunity came up to take the trip with a friend, we both jumped on it.

Our verdict? Costa Rica is a beautiful, lush, untouched and underrated country that I would recommend to anyone who has an interest in nature, mindful living or even more adrenaline-inducing activities.

It was perfectly safe for two 20-something-year-old girls. Conversational Spanish is a bonus, not a requirement. A 4×4 vehicle, however, is a must… My Costa Rica Travel Guide includes tidbits like the above AND how we booked our flights to San Jose, what you need to know when renting a car specifically in Costa Rica, tips to driving said car through the winding, often unpaved jungle, where we stayed, our day by day itinerary, a linked Google Map with more activities and restaurants than you have time for, tips to save money and lastly — what I will do differently next time around.
